Locast expands its local broadcast TV streaming service to Apple TV, Android TV

Locast, a streaming service that provides access to local broadcast television, has expanded its device compatibility lineup to include Apple TV, iPad and Android TV.Locast was already available on iOS, Android, Roku, Dish Network’s Hopper and multiple web browsers.“We are excited to offer Locast on even more devices. We can’t thank our fans enough for making this possible with all their support,” said David Goodfriend, chairman of Sports Fans Coalition NY, the non-profit that operates Locast. “The number of small-dollar donations we’ve received this year has allowed us to expand the service to new heights. We hope our fans continue to support us so we can continue to grow and make sure that everyone has access to their local broadcast stations no matter what device they use.” Locast, which launched in January 2018, streams full-power broadcast channels in a local markets to anyone with an Internet connection located within the relevant Nielsen Designated Market Area (DMA). The service is available for free, but asks users to donate. Locast said that “hundreds of thousands of Americans” have signed up for the service since its launch. Goodfriend said that Locast hopes to launch in more top 20 U.S. markets in 2019. Earlier this year, Locast added Washington, D.C., and Baltimore to its list of existing service markets including New York City, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston and Philadelphia.
