Group pushing for sports and entertainment complex

A new group pushing for a sports and entertainment complex is hoping to rally the public in advance of an upcoming open house on the future of Chatham’s arenas.Build the Complex CK, which recently launched a website and Facebook page, is presenting the proposal, adding it will provide a needed boost to the community.Nathan Trudell, a co-organizer for the group, believes the idea can become a reality if the public can show how much support there is and, in turn, encourage the mayor and council to get behind it. The proposed complex would include:A 4,000-plus seat arena with more than 20 private suites that would house sporting events, concerts, Broadway shows, live family entertainment and competitions.A second ice rink to replace Chatham’s current aging arenas, large retail and restaurant spaces, and added features that might include a multi-use gymnasium and other activity-based rooms and spaces; and Extensive parking to allow for events such as Ribfest, Bikefest, outdoor concerts, farmers’ markets and festivals.Over the past several weeks, the municipality has sought resident input on a proposed arena development or renovations in Chatham that would replace or repurpose Memorial and Erickson arenas.
