Globo invests US$3.3m in Pixellot’s AI streaming technology

Brazilian media company Grupo Globo has invested US$3.3 million in Israeli technology firm Pixellot as part of a move to integrate automated artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the production of its digital sports content. The partnership will see the installation of Pixellot’s technology at sports stadia and facilities across the country in order to give rights holders the option to live stream matches via Globo’s over-the-top (OTT) platforms. In agreeing to invest in Pixellot, Globo will join existing backers investment firms Shamrock Capital and Firstime, Chinese technology company Baidu, as well as Japan’s Asahi Broadcasting Company. Roberto Marinho Neto, director of Globo’s sports division, said: “After reviewing many technologies in the media market, we concluded that Pixellot has developed the only technology that can provide a solution at the scale and quality we require.
