World Social Media Day highlights safer use of digital media

The contribution social media is making to knowledge-sharing and helping connect people around the world is in sharp focus, with today being International Social Media Day. Dean McCoubrey is the founder of MySociaLife - South Africa's leading Digital Life-Skills Programme. It's being rolled out in schools across the country and teaches social media safety and digital life-skills.  McCoubrey says his team has first-hand insight into the mental and emotional health impact of social media on teens and tweens. "We're imploring on a day like this that schools work together with mental health professionals, with parents, and students to implement a programme like this and help kids to develop a framework of the way in which they get to operate to make them safer and smarter - as they move into the next decade," McCoubrey said.
