Verizon’s Oath launching Yahoo news content on Roku Channel

Verizon-owned Oath is planning to add livestreaming and VOD Yahoo news content to the Roku Channel."Yahoo" will have a suite of programs streaming within the Roku Channel app. The content will include programs from Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, HuffPost, RYOT and MAKERS.The new distribution opportunity for Yahoo comes as Oath continues investing in video across its brand ecosystem and expanded live programming in news, finance, sports and entertainment.Ad-supported free streaming news channels are becoming more and more numerous. NBC News announced last month that its streaming news channel Signal, which is aimed at younger audiences, will get a full launch in the first half of 2019.CBS, which has already launched ad-supported streaming news channels CBSN and CBS Sports HQ, this week confirmed the launch of ET Live, an entertainment channel serving up complementary programming to broadcast program Entertainment Tonight.For Verizon, distribution deals with popular platforms like Roku could help right the ship at Oath. Oath revenue for the third quarter totaled $1.8 billion, down 6.9% year over year.
