NBC to launch streaming OTT news service

NBC plans to launch its ad-supported streaming OTT news service named NBC News Now in early May.The service will be available free to viewers bringing eight hours of programming per day with live updates at the top of every hour in addition to breaking news. The news service is a continuation of NBC News Signal, which was launched in beta in October 2018.NBC News President Noah Oppenheim announced the news Monday at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. “We are going to launch with eight hours of programming, including live updates at the top of every hour and when breaking news mandates, we’ll go up live as well,” said Oppenheim.“So, for folks who don’t have a traditional cable subscription it will be a great way to access the reporting of NBC News.”NBC is the last of the three traditional US networks to launch a free-to-view streaming news service. ABC and CBS already offer a streaming OTT news service.
