Sony Patent Reveals PlayStation VR 2 Headset

New details about the PlayStation 5 were revealed this week, but we've yet to hear anything about the next generation of PlayStation VR. However, a new Sony patent has offered the first clues as to what we can expect. As Let's Go Digital reports, the patent was approved on Oct. 3 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and simply refers to a "data processing device." The included diagrams make it very clear this is a new virtual reality headset design, though, and therefore very likely to be the basis for the PlayStation VR version 2. The new headset is described as having two cameras mounted in the front and one at the back along with nine LEDs around the headset to allow for better tracking and motion detection. The wearer will look into two separate displays, which makes 3D sterescopic images possible. There's also talk of transparency, allowing the wearer to view some of the real-world around them with content added on top. That sounds very much like augmented reality.
