Virtual Reality IFE Opportunities and Obstacles Addressed

In 2014 Facebook kicked off one of the biggest tech trends in recent history when they acquired Virtual Reality (VR) headset producer Oculus Rift. Four years down the line and the conversation around VR is still booming, with new advancements, applications, content and investments being made every single day. Having secured initial headway in the ripe, but relatively niche, gaming market, VR is now opening doors in a multitude of other industries from education and therapy to sports and travel.One area in particular where VR can add significant value is In-Flight Entertainment (IFE). Sixty-seven years have elapsed since the first regular in-flight film projections , yet up until very recently IFE advancements could largely be summed up by the individualization of screens and the growth of content catalogs. While this brought highly valued choice (aka personalization), it also reduced the big screen to 10 low-resolution inches.
