In early video games, there was no need for storage, as these games usually had no actual plot to develop and were generally very short in length — meaning saved games were irrelevant. The fourth generation of consoles, also called the 16-bit generation, was the first to save your in-game progression and began in 1977.During this era, gaming storage was described in megabits instead of megabytes. Games were played through cartridges and saved games were held on the cartridges themselves. Most games only required a few megabytes of space.Cartridges were used between 1977 and 1996, ending with the Nintendo 64.

Sony’s PlayStation team and Facebook, including Oculus VR, have withdrawn from this year’s Game Developers Conference, citing health concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.“Out of concern for the health and safety of our employees, our dev partners, and the GDC community, Facebook will not be attending this year’s Game Developer Conference due to the evolving public health risks related to COVID-19,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement emailed to Polygon. “We still plan to share the exciting announcements we had planned for the show through videos, online Q&As, and more, and will plan to host GDC partner meetings remotely in the coming weeks.”

IDC:AR/VR market will still see eventual growth in 2020

AR/VR market will see a 10.5% decline in the first quarter of 2020, followed by a 24.1% decline in the second due to supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, according to IDC.However, IDC’s ‘Worldwide Quarterly Augmented and Virtual Reality Headset Tracker’ states that assuming production ramps back up by midyear, a rebound in the second half of 2020 will result in total shipments of nearly 7.1 million units for the year, up 23.6% from 2019. Long-term growth will be strong throughout the forecast period with shipments growing to 76.7 million units in 2024, resulting in a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 81.5%.
